Objectives
The major objective of URI is to build bridges linking different Faiths, in order to protect the most fragile and disadvantaged areas of our society from religious intolerance and bigotry.
Therefore the process of transcending religious barriers through Nature, Environment and the Arts is an integral part of our overall objective.
Our charitable objects are:
- the promotion of religious harmony
- the promotion of equality and diversity
- to advance in life and help young people to promote social cohesion
- to build the capacity of communities, and;
- to conserve, protect and enhance ecology and the environment.
Promotion of Religious Harmony by:- educating the public in different religious beliefs including an awareness of their distinctive features and their common ground to promote good relations between persons of different faiths; promoting knowledge and mutual understanding and respect of the beliefs and practices of different religious faiths.
We achieve this objective via our Faith in the Community campaign, Faith Evenings and “Spirit of the Nation” photographic programme.
Promotion of equality and diversity by:- the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of religion; advancing education and raising awareness in equality and diversity; promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds; conducting or commissioning research on equality and diversity issues and publishing the results to the public; cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity.
We achieve this objective via our Faith in the Community campaign.
To advance in life and help young people through:- developing the capacity and skills of members of socially and/or economically disadvantaged communities within the UK in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society, promoting social cohesion.
We achieve this objective via our National Interfaith Debate on the Environment, our “Spirit of the Nation” photographic programme and our Shared Sacred Space projects.
Community Capacity Building by:- developing the capacity and skills of members of socially and/or economically disadvantaged communities within the UK in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society. promoting social cohesion.
