Our regional events for young people are two-fold:
charter meetings, for smaller groups committing to working around the purpose
and principles of URI; and intercultural encounters to provide a stimulating
environment for exploring questions of identity, faith and culture.
Charter Meetings
In each region we are convening meetings for young
people in order to:
- Explain the URI Charter and the URI approach to
organizing;
- Explore the possibilities of organizing regional
youth co-operation circles;
- Start organizing for regional 'Intercultural
Encounters'.
Intercultural Encounters
In our regional events, young people will be able to
take part in an 'Intercultural Encounter', a challenging process through which
participants can explore values, faith, vision and goals. The encounters will
draw upon questions such as:
- What are our backgrounds, involvements, values,
motivations, visions? How do our backgrounds (e.g., faith, social, educational)
affect our understandings and value positions?
- What do we see around us? What is our experience
of conflict within our communities? Where does faith come into this? Are there
other complicating factors? What are the main causes of conflict?
- What common vision can we agree on, if any? Are
there some practical goals that we would like to achieve in order to help
contribute to this vision?
- What practical steps can we take in order to move
towards these goals?
