Photography can convey an impression of ‘truth’
about the subject photographed. This maybe a truth about location,
personality or colour. In ‘Spirit of Blackburn with
Darwen’ we hoped to capture a ‘truth’ about
the spiritual practice of the people in Blackburn and Darwen,
and how this feeds into the social, cultural and economic
life of the community. The exhibition provides evidence of
the need for a multi-faith community, in a world that is much
more interconnected and diverse than it was only decades ago.
In the process the young people who made these photographs
celebrated the faith groups they visited through photographs
of their prayer and work, and discussions. They shared their
experiences through an exhibition held in September 2005.
This
work was formally launched on Thursday 10th November at 12
noon at Saint Ethelburga’s Church and Reconciliation
Centre, Bishopgate, London. Please
