02. Faith Evenings
Faith Evenings are a key element of URI UK’s Faith in the CommunityTM initiative. They offer an opportunity for inter faith and trans-generational conversations where an individual’s spiritual journey is shared with someone of another faith and another generation. This personal approach avoids confrontation and has been so successful that John Battle MP (the former Prime Minister’s Inter-faith envoy) describes each such conversation as a 'brick' to build our new Society.
Faith Evenings are convened in a neutral or civic building, such as a Town Hall and the Lord Mayor or a similar secular head is usually involved. Invitations are sent to people from the under thirty age group and to older and more experienced members of the nine faiths (Christian, Hindu, Jain, Muslim, Sikh, Jewish, Buddhist, Baha'is, Zoroastrian) in the metropolitan or other district/area.
We aim for those who are not the normal inter faith spokespeople and with this number of invitations it is usually possible to secure the participation of about fifty older and fifty younger people. The key to success is ensuring that there is a good mix of people from both age groups and from all of the Faith Groups operating in the area.
