Monthly Update

The launch of the Government's "Face-to-Face and Side-by-Side: Framework for partnership in our multi faith society" is providing the backdrop for the first outing of our new Charity, new Company, new Logo and new Business Plan and campaign Faith in the Community.

URI UK has become an Incorporated Charity (Company No: 6613407 and Charity No: 1124863) in order to further develop our work and better respond to the opportunities and challenges of the present day.

Our new umbrella campaign, “Faith in the Community”, will see us working with community, public and business sector organisations across the UK to

promote:

  • Equality and Diversity
  • Social Cohesion
  • Capacity Building
  • Youth Involvement
  • Racial Harmony

Delivering

  • In-house equality and diversity training
  • Arts and cultural programmes that transcend faith boundaries
  • Conservation and environmental projects to create Shared Sacred Space in every region
  • A network, training and support for Interfaith workers
  • A Directory of Interfaith professionals and best practice

Demonstrating

“Spiritual Diversity is a Blessing not a Threat”

Faith in the Community provides a framework for delivering both the traditional elements of our work, such as Faith Evenings and the Spirit of the Nation photographic programme, as well as new areas of work involving long-term partnerships with Housing Associations and Local Authorities and the development of Shared Sacred Spaces within each region of the UK .

The term “Faith in the Community” is a statement and an imperative both reflecting and responding to the government¹s commitment to ³create strong cohesive communities in which every individual, whatever their racial or ethnic origin, is able to fulfil his or her potential through the enjoyment of equal opportunities, rights and responsibilities² (Improving Opportunity, Strengthening Society Two years on A progress report on the Government¹s strategy for race equality and community cohesion/Department for Communities and Local Government: ©Crown copyright, 2007)

Our expanded range of charitable objects are:

  • the promotion of religious harmony
  • the promotion of equality and diversity
  • to advance in life and help young people
  • to promote social cohesion
  • to build the capacity of communities, and;
  • to conserve, protect and enhance ecology and the environment
