02. Shared Sacred Place

Sacred buildings or space – some kind of sanctuary – is invariably the focus of faith. As a bridge building organisation we wish to facilitate the involvement of Faith Leaders and young adults from the Faith Groups in an exploration of the concept of Sacred Space.

We explore with faith groups the possibility of purchasing about ten acres of land in each region and developing it as Shared Sacred Space. No faith buildings. No religious icons – but the opportunity for faith groups to express their commitment to the environment and to ecological living. Together the faith groups own some land which is beautiful and which can be used for Educational, Environmental, Ecological and Spiritual work.

Each Shared Sacred Space will be a place of celebration and of working together. It will enable Faith Groups to make a statement about their understanding of the environment and living in it in an ecologically sound way. We will show in microcosm what can be found in the macro vision of that Region.

The first regional Shared Sacred Space is being developed on a 10 acre site in Burnthwaite, Bolton.
